Currently July 2015

I am linking up with Farley for her July  Currently link up.

Listening:  I'm watching the Today Show.  I love that I get to watch it in the summer. I'm always leaving right at 7 AM during the school year when it comes on TV.

Loving:  I really am loving the slow and easy pace of my summer this year.  As my boys get older they are all off doing their own things most of the time so I have lots of time to do what I want or need to do.  I really love waking up without the assistance of my trusty alarm clock. I still wake up early, but at least not the annoying noise of my alarm.

Thinking:  I have been wanting to start selling on TPT for the past few years and just have never pulled the trigger yet.  I have an account set up and even already posted a freebie a year ago, but have never made an item to sell.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  I need to find myself a TPT mentor.  I have tons of ideas I just have to figure out how to start small and what is worth spending money on as far as graphics and fonts.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wanting:  I have had a cough for months.  I went to the walk in clinic last month and was given a steroid inhaler. My inhaler has finally run out and I have an appt today with a Dr I have seen in the past to get checked out.  I just want this cough gone for good!

Needing:  I have days that I am totally productive and days I seem to accomplish next to nothing.  Now that it's July I really need to buckle down and get going on my Summer To Do list.  I feel like August is all about back to school mode so I want to make sure I accomplish some of the big tasks I have plans to finish this summer.

All-Star:  Humor  I have my students fill out an end of the year survey each school year and I have them give three words to describe me.  This year the response was overwhelming that I am fun/funny.  Lots of kids commented on my sense of humor.  Amazingly only one student used the word sarcastic (but she said it in a good way LOL).  I love my middle schoolers and would never have survived 25 years in the classroom without a sense of humor!

  1. Sherrie,

I told a fellow friend and colleague yesterday I have not even started on my summer to-do list, and my summer is almost over. It seems I need to get it together and fast! I have been selling on TpT for a couple years now. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Email at a_m_bentley@yahoo.com and ask anything you want to know.

  2. I recently decided to dive in and try making products for TPT. It's a lot harder than making stuff for your personal classroom, because you can't just use any graphics or fonts you want! I would recommend finding free graphics and fonts to start with, and then as you start to find success, you can purchase items little by little. Some of my favorite people who have a decent amount to free graphics to get you started are Sonya DeHart, Gabby's Classroom, and Krista Wallden. I used pretty much all Kevin and Amanda fonts to start with, since they are free. It's definitely a work in progress! I wish you all the best luck!

  3. Hi Sherrie! I am so sorry to hear about your cough! I hope your appointment goes well and you get something to kick that cough once and for good! I taught in a 5/6 learning center, and humor was such a crucial part of connecting and surviving middle school. Enjoy the Today Show and the rest of your relaxing July!

  4. Humor is SUPER important in the middle school class and glad you have it! I wish I was more funny - I'm more sarcasm which doesn't work in the classroom haha

Hope the cough goes away soon

    1. Hi Anisa,
I find that most middle schoolers actually love sarcasm as long as it's not mean spirited. I know lots of people might disagree with that, but my kids comment every year about how funny I am.
