A peek at my teacher corner (photos)

*Updated for 2012-2013 school year.  I am sharing a couple links of blogs posts with more updated photos of what my classroom looks like this year.  I changed and updated quite a few things.  I added some zebra accents to my color scheme and made a Math Focus Wall surrounding my SMARTBoard.  Classroom Photos Part I and Classroom Photos Part II.

Last fall in the rush off all things that go with getting a classroom set up for school, I posted Part I of my classroom set-up and then never got around to finishing with Part II.  As I was packing up my classroom last month I made sure that I took some photos of my "teacher corner" to share with all of you.  I have mentioned several times about our odd pentagon shaped rooms and the back corner is really wasted space, so a few years ago, I moved my desk and all teacher files/materials over there to utilize the space better.

I love the pops of my color scheme mixed throughout
The bright colored storage containers came from Target last summer.  I made the no sew banner and it's the same as the one over my SMARTBoard.  I hope you enjoyed the tour of my "happy place"  when it comes to teaching.  I spent a lot of time (and money) last summer revamping my classroom and I could not be happier with the results.  My students really loved my classroom set-up this year.  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love it! I'm planning on using the same colors this year-with a hint of zebra! I'm super excited to get back in there and start decorating!

  2. Hi Sherrie -
My question is in reference to one of your posts in March regarding organization and the poster "The first 5 minutes". What is your process for the assignment checking/correcting and stamping that occurs after your warm ups? I find that I spend too much time on the warm ups and checking/correcting assignments and it often sacrifices lesson time.

    1. When my students come into class they immediately (well that is the hope) take out their homework and begin working on the warm-up (which is usually on the SMARTBoard). They are supposed to do homework on the looseleaf and they leave that sitting on the top of their desks. I walk around the room and stamp everyone's paper with a stamp of my initials, if the assign is complete. While I am walking around a checking the homework students are completing the warm-up in their notebooks. That way I don't have to wait for them to find homework, because it is on looseleaf.

After stamping we quickly correct the warm-up and then check homework. All answers are on the SMARTBoard so students self correct and then I answer questions or correct any misconceptions. This entire process (warm-up and assign check) takes between 5-10 min most days.

      HTH!

  6. Hey there,

I found your blog from the No Place Like Home class photo linky party. Your room looks great - you have ALL my fav colors as your theme: turquoise, lime green & hot pink. I totally went all out with turquoise & lime green everything a couple years ago, but was always too afraid of my hot pink obsession turning off the boys & inspiring loud & crazy classroom energy. Then I found that the lime was too harsh to look at sometimes, so I went to muted green & baby blue fabrics; but I definitely miss the tropical look I used to have. Target & Hobby Lobby are always ready to entice me with turquoise & lime accents - you probably know how that goes. :)
